Pocket Platoons Tips and tricks

Earn Powerful Units Through Repeatable Battles

You can earn powerful units by completing repeatable elite-mode battles. These insane difficulty conflicts become available after completing the fifth skirmish of every campaign, and reward players with draft order (or blueprint) pages. Collect and combine all of the pages to draft special units to add to your army. Repeat this process to swell your ranks with powerful units.

Scope Out Enemy Defenses
You can and should check out your enemies during battle. To see the stats on any enemy unit, just tap and hold that unit when you’re on the battle screen. You can inspect each unit’s power, accuracy, defense, special abilities, and more. This knowledge can help you select targets during combat. For example, you can target low-defense units with weak attacks, gang up on high-defense targets to wear them down, and avoid using low-health units to fire on enemies with counterattack abilities.

Turn Order Matters
Those little yellow diamonds next to each unit’s name on the battle screen define their turn order. Pay close attention to that number for every unit on the battlefield—both yours and those that belong to the enemy. This way you can concentrate fire on enemies with high-damage attacks and potentially take them out before they get a chance to fire on your units. Alternatively, you can kill low-health units before enemy medics get a chance to heal them.

Manage Base Troops Wisely
You can only deploy troops on the battlefield that are visible in your base camp. If you run out of room for new units, you can either build more fields to hold the new units, or you can discharge some units to free up space. If you discharge units to your inventory, you can save them for later use. To reactivate these saved units, simply deploy them again from your inventory when you have enough fields on your base to hold them. If you don’t need a unit at all anymore, however, you can discharge it completely, and you’ll recoup some resources in the process.

Tanks Block Line of Sight
All tanks act as obstacles, so units placed behind them will have cover from enemy direct fire weapons. Deploy tanks on the front lines to protect units behind them. Beware of indirect, area-effect attacks like mortars, however, because not only can these attacks bypass cover, they also deal damage to surrounding units. So, if you bunch up your infantry units directly behind your tanks, you’re just lining them up for the enemy to blow over with a big explosion.

Don’t Like Your Bonus Stats? Re-roll Your Medals
When your units gain levels, they earn medals that add bonuses to their stats. Every time a unit receives a medal, you can spend a little gold to “re-roll” the stat bonuses on that medal to look for ones you like better. For example, if your rifleman has a choice between +1 evasion, +1 HP, and +1 defense, but you’d prefer power and/or accuracy bonuses, you can roll again for a fee. Holding out for medals that have multiple bonuses makes your units even more powerful when you upgrade those bonuses later on because all of the numbers on the medal will increment. You can re-roll stat bonuses later on if you decide your current bonuses aren’t working for you. To re-roll after applying a medal, you will need a Reissue Medal item, which you can earn in-game or purchase through the shop.

Compete to Earn Extra Rewards
Pocket Platoons provides several ways to compete against other players for prestige and in-game rewards. If you score well in ranked PvP fights against other players, on your Siege battles, or on the Secret Mission, you can break into the top echelon of the leader boards and compete for the prizes that are awarded at the end of the season. Only your top score for each type of battle will appear on the leader boards, so you can compete every day to try to improve your score and move up in the rankings.

Deploy Carefully to Increase Siege Mode Scores
Siege mode pits your platoons against multiple waves of enemies. Survive all of the waves to earn gold, experience, supplies, fame, and ranking points. Your rank score compares your skill against other players, and rewards are given at the end of each siege season based on these scores. To maximize your Siege mode score, deploy as few units as possible to destroy the enemy waves and avoid redeploying unless you absolutely must. You will score bonus points at the end of each siege, which are based on how many (or how few) units you deploy and how often you were forced to redeploy between waves.

Unlock Final Mission to Earn Daily Rewards
To finish a campaign in Pocket Platoons, you must fight your way through five named battles, each containing five skirmishes (for a total of 25 skirmishes in a campaign). Once you progress through a campaign, you unlock the Final Mission, which is a single, boss-level skirmish that you can complete once per day to earn big rewards! And although you can only replay each boss battle once per day, having finished multiple campaigns will give you access to multiple daily boss battles.

Indirect-Fire Units Bypass Obstacles; Use Obstacles to Your Advantage; Forego Accuracy When Upgrading Support Units
Both artillery and sniper units use indirect fire, so they can target enemies protected by obstacles. Tap these units for detailed information about their abilities. You can use your artillery and snipers to take out the enemy’s indirect-fire units, which will help safeguard the units you have positioned behind cover. Artillery can hit multiple units, so look for enemies grouped together behind cover. Snipers can help you remove high-value targets, like medics, mechanics, and mission-critical units, all of whom are often positioned behind cover.

Obstacles are useful for protecting your most valuable units because enemies with direct-fire weapons must remove the obstacle before they can target your soldiers. When faced with obstacles on the enemy’s side of the field, watch for enemy units positioned next to those obstacles. Gunners can actually injure enemy units indirectly by firing at an obstacle next to them—while engineers can quickly destroy the obstacle itself. This not only helps you take out that unit, but work on removing the obstacle at the same time.

Support Units such as medics and mechanics do not need accuracy because they are targeting friendly units. They will always “hit” targets with their support abilities, so when you upgrade those units, never choose medals that give accuracy stat bonuses. Focus instead on power or speed to increase their effectiveness in combat. Defense, Evasion, and HP are also good options because intelligent enemies will focus their attention on these valuable units.

Check The Defenses Of Your Enemies
Your battle strategy should always include a certain level of scouting – when in battle, check your enemy to see how their defenses are stacking up. Tap and hold units to see their stats; you are able to check everyone’s power, defense, accuracy, and a variety of other stats. Once you’ve gotten done scouting, you can then look for those low-defense units and focus weaker attacks on them, and use your strength in numbers (if applicable) to deal with the tougher ones. You wouldn’t want to have units with low health points to open fire on an enemy that is able to counter-attack.

Turn Order Is Very Important
If you see several small yellow diamonds adjacent to each unit’s name, that’s the indicator that will determine your turn order. You should always look for that number and keep it in mind for all units, may it be your own units or those on the enemy’s side. This would, in simpler terms, allow you to focus your gunfire on high-damage enemies and get rid of them before they can wreak havoc – nipping things at the bud, in other words.

Be Aware That Base Troop Management Is Paramount
The only troops you can deploy on the battlefield are those you can see from your base camp. And if you don’t have much room for new units, you have your share of choices – you can free space by discharging units, or create more fields so you’d have more room for your good guys.

Deploy soldiers from your inventory if you want to reactivate them. And feel free to discharge units completely if you feel their services aren’t needed anymore; you won’t get all your resources back, but you’ll at least get some of them.

Tanks Do As Their Name Suggests
In RPGs and MMOs, a “tank” refers to the gaming parlance for characters with high HP ratings. The tanks in Pocket Platoons, of course, are actual ones, and they serve a similar purposes, blocking the way and giving units a place to seek cover from the enemy onslaught. But is it always a good idea to do this? We say nay. Sometimes the enemy could have mortars that can deal out damage to any surrounding units. And with that in mind, you want to avoid placing your infantry soldiers behind your tanks if you don’t want the enemy to score an epic attack on you.

Get More Powerful Units, Here’s How
This can be done by completing elite-mode battles that are free to repeat at any time. Take note, though, that they’ll only be available once you complete the fifth skirmish in a campaign, and that the difficulty level in these battles is way off the charts. You’ll win blueprint pages as a reward, and you’ll then have to collect all of the pages and combine them in such a way that you’ll be able to add some special units to your army. These ultra-difficult battles can be grinded, so there really is a lot to look forward to from these seemingly impossible missions. (They are possible, though!)

You Can Re-Roll Your Bonus Stats
When a unit receives a medal (through gaining levels, that is), that unit automatically gets statistical bonuses. These bonuses come at random, but you have a choice to re-roll the bonuses in hopes that they come out more to your favor. These will cost you some gold, but if you get the stat boosts you want, it’ll be worth it.

Take this example – you may want your rifleman to have better offensive skills, such as increased power and accuracy. But if you get additional HP instead, you’re free to pay a fee to re-roll the bonus skills. And as a bonus tip, pun definitely not intended, you can hold out for medals that will give your units more than just one bonus. That’s because when you upgrade them later on in the game, you can make your units into virtual juggernauts, or at least something close to that. You can also use a Reissue Medal to re-roll after a medal has been applied – these medals are found in the store, or can also be acquired in the course of the game.

Formation Counts In Siege Mode
Siege Mode is a neat way to earn more gold, XP, ranking points, resources, and other goodies – your units will have to face multiple enemy waves, and once you survive those waves, you can get some nice rewards. It helps to deploy as few units as possible if you want to get a higher Siege Mode score.

Use Obstacles To Your Advantage
Obstacles can be your best friend in most occasions, operative word most. Some units, such as artillery and snipers, use indirect fire, which means they can target your units even if they’re under the cover of an obstacle. Always tap enemy units to see more details on their stats, and use your own indirect-fire units to take out those of the enemy.
